TKS was originally founded as the result of a 1988 military initiative developed by a senior level workgroup composed of USEUCOM (U.S. European Command), the U.S. Army Europe, and the U.S. Air Force Europe. The objective was to enrich the quality of life of U.S. service members stationed in Germany by supplying English-language television programming.

After an initial test phase in Bitburg, Sembach and Stuttgart, an agreement between the German Ministry for Post and Telecommunications and USEUCOM was executed in 1992. This partnership agreement is what led to the formation of TKS as a wholly owned subsidiary of DeTeKabel-Service Bonn. TKS was thereby charged with the task of providing U.S. service members and their families with cable television and other telecommunication services.

TKS rapidly became a European leader in the technical know-how required to interface between European PAL and American NTSC broadcast standards. Altogether more than € 30 million was invested in order to guarantee that all English-language programs, with licensing contracts from the respective U.S. companies, could be broadcasted.

Over the years, further technological advancements and an ever-expanding customer base led to the development of additional custom-tailored English language solutions.

Today, TKS’ diversified portfolio of unique English-language services are available nationwide, benefitting the entire English-speaking community in Germany, both military and civilian alike.

1989: USEUCOM/Deutsche Telekom cable television contract is executed; the cable TV pilot project starts in Bitburg with 8 channels.

1990: Sembach & Stuttgart Patch is added to pilot cable project.

1992: TKS Kaiserslautern is founded when DBP Telekom forms a subsidiary to further develop the new cable project with the U.S. military.

1995: The first pay TV channel is offered.

1998: TKS implements the Cable Phone System in Ramstein.

2000: TKS receives the exclusive rights to market telecommunication services on U.S. property from the Army Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES).

2001: Cable Highspeed Internet service is launched at Ramstein Air Base; TKS becomes Germany’s first provider of cable Internet service.

2002: TKSSnap! English telephone service is introduced.

2003: TKSSnap! telephone service is broadened to other user groups such as Expats and the British Forces Germany.

2005: TKS becomes an Internet service provider with TKSSurf!, the TKS DSL resale program begins.

2006: TKS markets the Kabel Digital television services of Kabel Deutschland.

TKSMobile! English-language wireless service is introduced.

2007: Cable Phone, residential telephone service based on first-line VoIP technology, is initially launched at Ramstein Air Base.

myTKS, a self-developed Customer Care and Billing System is implemented.

2008: Cable Phone combined with Double & Triple Play service bundles are introduced in all Cable Highspeed locations.

Grand opening of first Italy shop: TKSShop Vicenza, Caserma Ederle.
