Emergence as a World Leader
TKS Telepost Kabel-Service Kaiserslautern, was established in 1991 to be the operator of the television cable service for the U.S.
forces in Germany. This important component of the enhancement of the "quality of life" for military members was brought into existence
under a US European Command / Deutsche Telekom AG international partnership agreement. With the backing of parent Deutsche Telekom AG
and DeTeKabelService, TKS moved rapidly to become a world leader in the technical know-how involving the combining of European PAL
standard satellite programming with the American NTSC system.
With an investment of more than $30 million, TKS ensured the delivery of all English language programming possible for viewing on
the American standard (NTSC) televisions and VCRs, something truly unique.
When TKS started in 1991 as cable TV provider we offered our customers five English language NTSC channels, one AFN channel and one
information channel called Milcom.
Since then our cable TV programming has increased to 15 English language channels and one Spanish language channel.
With an agreement between USAEUR headquarters / 5th Signal Command and TKS, the AFN basic channel selection expanded into six AFN channels. Two additional new AFN channels are already planned.
In July 2002, TKS began providing English language telecommunication services for many U.S. military customers.
With the start of TKSSnap! we again improved our customer relationships by offering the full range of telecommunications services with the added advantage of English language support and billing.
In March of 2003, TKS started to expand its TKS CableModem Service. Previously, it was available only at Ramstein Air Base and in the Kaiserslautern Military Community. Heidelberg and other locations will soon be connected. The TKS CableModem Service is providing Internet Services at high speed. Cable modems are growing in popularity and we expect to see significant increases in this area of business.
